An iron-silicon-carbon alloy, cast white and heat treated under controlled conditions in such a manner that part of the carbon is present as nodules of graphite and the remainder is intentionally retained in the combined form. The combined carbon appears as spheroids, pearlite lamellae, or tempered martensite products.
